| บทคัดย่อ : | The author has reviewed biology of the sand crab found in Phuket island and adjacent
areas including their distribution and abundance. Three species of sand crab are
described. They are Emerita emeritus; Hippa adactyla; and Albunea symnista.
Among them, only E. emerius is acceptable as food and appears on the menu of many
restuarants in Phuket. It is apparent that its abundance has severely declined recently
as a result of heavily harvesting and deteriorating its habitats. He therefore
recommended that concerning agency should consider to establish management
scheme for conserving the sand crab as quick as possible before it is too late.
